High surf and rain has resulted in flooding on the Fort Pickens Road within Gulf Islands National Seashore, with as much as 12-14 inches of water in places. The Fort Pickens campground remains open for those with prior reservations, and existing campers are allowed to come and go. Access on the Fort Pickens Road is restricted for all other visitors until further notice, and visitors are being contacted and turned around at the entrance station. The park will reopen the road for all visitors as soon as water on the road subsides. Fort Barrancas will be open Friday- Sunday, July 5-8, so that visitors may enjoy an alternate site while Fort Pickens is closed. For additional information, contact park headquarters at 850-934-2600.
